2023 HIGHLIGHTS

Another year comes to an end and there are many things for which we are grateful, firstly to our community, the studentsfacultystaffindustry partnersfriends and all our stakeholders who greatly contribute to the everyday experience making it truly authentic and unique.

A NEW ROMAN CAMPUS

A landmark moment in the history for Accademia Costume & Moda that sees the announcement the opening of a new campus in Rome at the Magazzini allo Statuto (MAS) in Piazza Vittorio, in the Esquilino district. This new facility, planned to be operational from October 2024, aims to get even closer to the local community and its artisanal experiences. Covering an area spread over more than 5000 square meters, the campus features fully digitized studios inspired by ACM’s DNA, placing student experiential and socialization at its core. In addition to digital studios, it provides 1000 square meters of laboratories dedicated to Accessories, Costume, Alta Moda / Couture, Photography, and Styling, along with new spaces for the “Fiamma Lanzara” library and the Fabric Library. Fascinating architectural features which include 250 square meters of terraces and a rooftop, intended for the community as recreational, communal, and interactive spaces.

GUEST VISITS & EXCEPTIONAL LECTURES

Throughout the year, students had the opportunity to engage with key figures and subject specialists from the top of the international fashion industry. From François-Henri PinaultPresident and CEO of Kering, making his first visit to an Italian fashion school, to Francesca Bellettini, Deputy CEO and Head of Brand Development Kering and President and CEO of Yves Saint Laurent. Students also met with Carolina CucinelliCo-President and Co-Creative Director of Brunello Cucinelli, who shared her experience in the world of Made in Italy, and Alessio VannettiExecutive Vice President Chief Brand Officer at Gucci. Additionally, Asian fashion designer Guo Peia member of the Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture, visited ACM, reviewing students’ work. Italian actor Nicolas Maupas also shared his professional experience with our student community. In November, in our Milan Campus, Martino Scabbia Gurerrini, Executive Vice President, Global Chief Commercial Officer & President Emerging Brand at VF Corporation held an extraordinary masterclass, with a profound explanations of the intricacies of crucial themes of globalization, sustainable practices, and transformative business models.

INDUSTRY PROJECTS

During 2023, the Academic Master and 3yr BA students collaborated with some of the most important Maisons and leading professionals, applying their creative skills to extraordinary projects.

From the Brioni Summer Camp and the Valentino Special Project, in partnership with Project Officina Creativa for DAPL students in Costume & Fashion, to Etro for the DAPL class in Fashion Management: Fashion Product System, and Diesel for the DAPL in Fashion Editor, Styling & Communication. The Master in Alta Moda Fashion Design collaborated with Maison ValentinoTessitura Stamperia Luigi Verga, and Museoa Cristobal Balenciaga, while the Accessories Design Master worked with Santoni, FendiFerragamo, and Furla. The Master in Fashion Communication & Art Direction had significant project in partnerships with MonclerSlowearFashion Film Festival Milano, and Icebreaker, while the Master in Fashion Sustainability and Industry Evolution received superb interventions from FerragamoProject Officina Creativa, and Bonaudo. Lastly, the Fabrics Innovation Design Master students received creative and technical support from Lanificio di SordevoloDondi JerseyRatti, and Clerici Tessuto, while the Master in Creative Knitwear Design developed projects with Max MaraBlumarine, and Antonio Marras.

FASHION SHOW

In 2023, our students from the BA in Costume & Fashion, Masters in Alta Moda, Fashion Design, and Master in Creative Knitwear Design, showcased their final collections on the runway. The ACM Talents Show 2023 took place in Rome on February 2, featuring Vincenzo Mastropasqua winning our Fashion Category and Beatrice Ciocca for Accessories CategoryZita Alberti was the winner of the Communication award, while Giulio Fasolino received the Pitti Tutoring & Consulting Awards. On June 28, at Pitti Immagine Filati, the Master in Creative Knitwear Design presented Personal and Industry Capsule Collections in a special Fashion Show event supported by Pitti Discovery. During Fashion Graduate Italia on October 26, the students from the Master in Alta Moda, Fashion Design unveiled their haute couture collection in Milan at BASE Milano, showcasing significant experimentation, savoir-faire, and creativity.

EXHIBITION

During the February Milano Fashion Week, ACM played a prominent role, participating in industry fairs, talks, and exhibitions. Within Lineapelle, the primary international fair dedicated to leather, accessories, and textiles, the projects of the Accessories Department for the A.Y. 21/22 were showcased. On February 21, CEO Furio Francini took part in a roundtable at MICAM X alongside Matteo Secoli and Anna Rogg.

On February 22, we presented the project “From Earth to the Moon: Swatch’s journey towards innovation”with Paolo Ferrarini and Adrien Roberts in the new format of the Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana. Additionally, students from the Master in Creative Knitwear Design exhibited their works within the context of Feel The Green, inspired by the 4sustainability® system.

On June 8, at Palazzo Farnese in Rome, ACM participated in the Annual Women in Leadership Meeting with a talk by our Chairman, Lupo Lanzara, and CEO, Furio Francini. There was also an exhibition on sustainability featuring projects from students of the DAPL in Costume and Fashion. On June 14, at Cinema Anteo in Milan, students from the Master in Fashion Communication & Art Direction presented their fashion films during the Fashion Film Festival Milano.

During Milano Unica, we showcased creations from students in the Master in Fabrics Innovation Design developed in collaboration with prestigious Italian textile partners. On July 20, the “Felicittà” event opened the doors of the Rome campus to the Roman community during the General States of Heritage.

As part of RomaDiffusa, ACM offered a campus tour, including creative labs, the fabric library, and the ‘Fiamma Lanzara’ Library-Archive housing a significant collection of over 5,500 volumes and 14,000 magazine issues. On October 21, in Rome, Forces of Fashion took place for the first time in Italy, where our students faced the challenge of reinterpreting iconic looks worn by Isabella Rossellini in Blue Velvet, having the opportunity to meet the actress and ACM Alumna, the film’s protagonist.

On June 14th 2023, our student Desideria Bianchi, from the Undergraduate Course in Fashion Management, won the “INCOTEX BLUE DIVISION FOR TALENTS” contest promoted by Incotex and La Rinascente.

On the 18th September 2023,  our Alumni received three important prizes during the 29th edition of “International Lab of Mittelmoda – The Fashion Award“, the competition reserved for graduates and recent graduates in fashion design from Art & Design institutes around the world, organized together with Camera Nazionale della Moda ItalianaConfindustria Moda and Fondazione del Tessile Italiano. Beatrice Ciocca, BA in Costume & Fashion, with her Accessories Design collection Æssenza” #ACMTalents2023, won “The Bag Award” offered by Mipel and “The Italian Leather Award” offered by Lineapelle. Martina MercuriBA in Fashion Editor, Styling & Communication, with her Graduate Communication Project ‘Multiverse’ was the winner of the “Andreas Schmeidler Special Award” offered by the family and friends of the Milanese manager.

On September 19th, in the setting of Palazzo Reale in Milan, our alumna, Francesca NoriBA in Costume & Fashion, was announced as the winner of the “Master of Excellence in Innovation” category during the “Métiers d’excellence” Award Ceremony. This prestigious prize was established through the collaboration of the French luxury group LVMHCamera Nazionale della Moda ItalianaConfartigianato, and Fendi, and sponsored by the Italian Ministry of Culture.

Our alumnae Flavia Cardarelli and Eleonora Formato, from our BA Costume & Fashion, are the winners of the Graduate Fashion Week International Accessories Award supported by Crisden with their “Two 00 One” Accessories Capsule Collection, presented for the first time during ACM Talents 2023 Fashion Show in Rome last February and coordinated by Luigi Mulas Debois, Director of ACM Accessories Department!

GFWi 2023, Dubai Fashion Week, our Costume & Fashion BA graduate Vincenzo Mastropasqua (currently at Louis Vuitton Homme in Paris) presented his Talents capsule collection. This was anticipated by two days of industry talks in Dubai organized by Adrien Roberts, International Director of Education ACM and Chair of GFWi.

Luca lanelli, student of the1st edition of our Master in Style & Management for the Music Industry, won the national competition for new authors “Genova per Voi” as manager for Martina Di Nardobringing the artist an exclusive contract with Universal Music Publishing.

Sara Veneziano, alumna of the Master in Accessories Design is the winner of  the Footwear Category winner in the International Real Leather Stay Different Competition 2023. This competition celebrates the best of leather, emphasizing sustainability, craftsmanship, and design.

On October 24, during the award ceremony of the MF Supply Chain Awards, an event recognizing prizes given to companies and key players in the Made in Italy supply chain, Accademia Costume & Moda was awarded the prize for Best Education.

EVENTS

In January, on our Campus in Milan we hosted the official “Lyst Index report” presentation “Italy’s Fashion Leaders Come Together to Discuss the Business of Brand Heat, as the Lyst Index Marks Five Years of Customer Insights!” wow. Such a great event full of insights and experiences. We cannot be more grateful to Lyst’s CEO Emma McFerran and her amazing Team starting from Katy Lubin and to Christian LayolleIsabelle Harvei Watt , moreover to Emanuela Schmeidler for such a learning journey.

On stage, magnificently moderated by Tamu McPherson, Lorenzo Bertelli, Prada Marketing Director and Head of CSR; Remo Ruffini, Chairman and CEO Moncler; Jacopo Venturini, CEO of Valentino; as well as Founder and Artistic Director of Palma Angels, Francesco Ragazzi and the Artistic Director of Emilio Pucci, Camille Miceli.

On 9th March, our ChairmanA. Lupo Lanzara, and our CEOFurio Francini, have had the honour on behalf of Accademia Costume & Moda, to award the Certificate of Merit to Mr. CologniCavaliere del Lavoro and Chevalier de l’Ordre National du MériteCommandeur de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres and Officier de la Légion d’ Honneur

In May, all our students of the Undergraduate Courses of the Rome Campus were called to express their vision of pride and freedom through the creation of graphics which were subsequently submitted to a jury which selected two winners for the contest Wear Your Pride contest took place, organized by the Circolo di Cultura Omosessuale Mario Mieli in partnership with Accademia Costume & Moda. The contest aimed at creating a T-shirt that would represent the positive values of the LGBTQ+ community.

June 5th marked the beginning of the residency program by Visegrad Fund in partnership with Accademia Costume & Moda, offering the opportunity to four young artists, researchers and designers to immerse themselves in workshops, masterclasses, explore exhibitions, archives, and trade fairs and experience cultural activities throughout Milan and the rest of Italy.

On  September 6th was held the ceremony “Milano and Ferragamo educational support for young talents” project was born on the basis of this principle, a synergy between the Department of Labor Policies of the Municipality of Milan, the Salvatore Ferragamogroup and Piattaforma Sistema Formativo Moda ETS to support the education of 4 deserving students of the Scuole civiche di Moda e Sartoria in via Fleming and via Visconti, in Milan. Evgeniia Morgun, thanks to the project she will attend the Undergraduate Programme “Fashion Management – Fashion Product System” of Accademia Costume & Moda; receiving the certificate of participation from Furio Francini, CEO of ACM.

In September, we had the privilege of collaborating as partners in the Executive Master’s program in “Luxury Management and Design Innovation” jointly promoted by the Essec Business School and the Parsons School of Design. This collaboration took place at both our campuses located in the cities of Milan and Rome.

The signing of a collaborative agreement, with some interesting objectives, with one of the world’s most important players in our field, University of the Arts London (UAL) / London College of Fashion (LCF) took place at a very special location. Thanks to the vision of John Lau, Dean of Academic Strategy at LCF invited Furio Francini, our CEO, along with Adrien Roberts, our International Director of Education to sign the agreement in the new home of LCF in Stratford, still in the process of being built. With hard hats and boots they visited all corners of the almost completed building. Other visits and important collaborations signed in 2023 include, BINUS Jakarta Indonesia, University of Westminster, London UK.

On December 5th, we had the honour of hosting the 12th edition of the Charity Shopping event organized by Progetto Sorriso nel Mondo at our Campus in Milan. This significant charitable gathering was meticulously arranged by Sara Sozzani MainoGiulio Martinelli, and Daniel Munari, with the purpose of supporting the organization’s noble international mission.
