Gender, Human, Post Human | Tessitura Stamperia Luigi Verga Industry Project

A Unique Industry Project, in partnership with Tessitura Stamperia Luigi Verga and dedicated to students of the Master in Alya Moda, Fashion Design, drew inspiration from the recent Venice Art Biennale 2023. The Biennale focused intensely on the portrayal of femininity, leading to the exploration of new directions and the definition of new human identities.

This project highlighted two key elements: the material and jacquard fabric, with all its potential, and the development of a narrative that draws from contemporary female art and expands towards broader identities beyond the human form.

DISCOVER THE MASTER

The project had multiple objectives. Firstly, it aimed to bring students into direct contact with the primary material of their craft, honing their ability to recognize high-quality fabric, a fundamental element in haute couture. Additionally, it sought to promote conceptual research that explored contemporary art, femininity, and the nuances between the human and post-human, as well as the relationship between gender and artistic production. The ultimate goal was the creation of jacquard proposals and the outline of an initial capsule collection.

Students worked in groups of 4-5 people each, gaining insights into the intricacies of jacquard production and its historical context. This approach aimed to stimulate in-depth research that examined contemporary expressions eloquently.

This project drew inspiration not only from contemporary art but also from its ability to interpret the surrounding world. The Biennale’s curator initially focused on female art and then extended her vision into more complex and visionary directions.

The primary objective was to translate the present into fabrics and textures, always retaining their significance. This operation is fundamental in nurturing creativity in design.

The active participation of the involved company was crucial in developing a coherent identity, starting from the textile material. At the project’s conclusion, students presented four distinct groups, each with their own reinterpretation of jacquard and a daily haute couture capsule collection reflecting their research.
