Lanificio di Sordevolo a partner of the Master in Fabrics Innovation design, combines design research with the exceptional entrepreneurial ability and the passion of its founder, Cesare Perino. Being always attentive to production technological innovations leading the company the management, of the second generation with Patrizia and Damiano, place innovation as the foremost importance for the textiles market: products that has been transformed with the search for particular ultra-fine yarns, materializing with the use of wool alongside silk, viscose, linen, and cotton.

The designer is an interpret of his time and what we currently live in is particularly complex: wars, environmental crises, and the consequent lack of resources, changed global scenarios and a great sense of uncertainty for the future. In this framework, art, before design, tends to translate the essence of the contemporary. In a temporal parallelism, the Expressionist current (in painting, cinema, and music,) of the first 20 years of the 1900s established itself as a current promulgating a different meaning than in the past: art as an expression of interiority as opposed to an objective and univocal vision of the world. History repeats itself but the tools are changing today as technologies, and in particular artificial intelligence, are inexorably modifying the global scenarios, specifically within the creative industries. In a recent speech to BOF Voices, Mo Gwandat illustrated well how much this has an impact on all levels of our lives and how it has already changed design and distribution strategies.

In occasion of the visit to Lanificio Sordevolo, students had the opportunity to experience first-hand the production, processing and processes of the company that has also been working on sustainability for some time. The theme of heritage and the encounter with modernity is even more important in a moment of social transition such as the current one.

Students are invited to analyze the phenomenon of the Expressionist movement and the principles that guided it without literally translating works, architecture, garments, or paintings but using the same principles of innovation, language, and technology in the present, to create a contemporary narrative.

Furthermore, students who wish will be able to “play” with Artificial Intelligence, with ChatGPT -open to respond to the definition of a series of conceptual elements that are to be investigated
