On Saturday, October 21st, for the first time in Italy, Rome hosted “Forces of Fashion“ an initiative by Vogue Italia that delves into the world of fashion through the voices of its protagonists. On this occasion, 10 IIIyr students from BA in Costume & Fashion at the Accademia Costume & Moda took up the challenge presented by Vogue Italia and Gianpiero Urzetta: Live Atelier, a workshop conducted in collaboration with the Italian magazine and the company specializing in the sale and rental of sewing machines and equipment.
During this workshop, students reinterpreted and created contemporary and personal vision of the iconic outfits worn by Isabella Rossellini, ACM Alumna and actress, in David Lynch’s film, “Blue Velvet.”
It was a day filled with emotions where Giorgio, Ji Su, Eleonora, Tommaso, Alessio, Letizia, Martina, Nosakhare and Michael had the opportunity to showcase their creativity to Isabella Rossellini and all the guests of Forces of Fashion: Francesca Ragazzi, Head of Editorial Content at Vogue Italia, Edward Enninful, Editor-in-Chief of British Vogue & European Editorial Director at Vogue, Pierpaolo Piccioli, Creative Director of Maison Valentino, and Sabato De Sarno, Creative Director of Gucci.
Divided into 5 groups, they had one day to bring these looks to life as pairs. Our students, within the “Inside Vogue” space at the Ex Mattatoio, utilized the moulage technique with the assistance of Gianpiero Urzetta’s machines to craft garments inspired by the enigmatic and mysterious character of Dorothy Vallens, portrayed by Isabella Rossellini, who herself had graduated from the historic BA in Costume & Fashion
This unique experience is one for which we are infinitely grateful to Vogue Italia. It allowed the students to firsthand experience a high-fashion workshop, and it provided visitors with a chance to get up close to the techniques and practices of the “Made in Italy” tradition, this time interpreted by the new talents in the world of fashion.
