On September 19th, in the setting of Palazzo Reale in Milan, our alumna, Francesca Nori, BA in Costume & Fashion, was announced as the winner of the “Master of Excellence in Innovation” category during the “Métiers d’excellence” Award Ceremony. This prestigious prize was established through the collaboration of the French luxury group LVMH, Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana, Confartigianato, and Fendi, and sponsored by the Italian Ministry of Culture.
Métiers d’excellence, launched in February with 300 received candidatures, represents the first-ever recognition for Italian artisans. Its primary objective is to raise public awareness about the importance of passing down the “savoir-faire” that is uniquely Made in Italy to future generations. The three winners, selected by an exceptional jury including Toni Belloni, Group Managing Director of LVMH; Chantal Gaemperle, Executive Vice President of Human Resources and Synergies at LVMH; Silvia Venturini Fendi, Artistic Director of Accessories and Menswear at Fendi; Serge Brunschwig, CEO of Fendi; Francesco Pellerano, Worldwide Industrial Director at Fendi; and Carlo Capasa, President of the Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana, Nicoletta Polla Mattiot, Editor in Chief, How To Spend It, Sole 24 ore, Francesca Pasquali, Artist and co-creator of the 2022 LVMH Métiers d’Excellence Artist/Artisan Collaboration, Simona Iannini, Master Artisan and co-creator of the 2022 LVMH Métiers d’Excellence Artist/Artisan Collaboration; each received a prize of €10,000 to reinvest in their respective businesses, in addition to mentoring sessions with experts from the esteemed Maison Fendi.
Francesca Nori and Fabrizio Moiani, duo of young Romans, founded in 2020 Verabuccia, a brand that was born with the intention of rethinking the unused and inedible organic waste for human consumption, considering them no longer as waste but as resources. The innovative process patented by Francesca and Fabrizio allows a food by-product, such as pineapple peel, to become raw material for another sector.
“Since I was a child, I’ve had the opportunity to grow up in a craft-based environment. However, in order to give tangible expression to my passions beyond those of my family, I decided to pursue a specific educational path at the Accademia Costume & Moda. There, I was given the opportunity to understand that Italian heritage is not just about craftsmanship but also about thinking, which adds much more value to Italian excellence. Through that way of thinking, I was provided with the initial tools that I could combine with the innovation that has evolved into circularity/sustainability today, compared to 2017. This transformation has been made possible thanks to the support of an Italian chemical company and ongoing interaction and dialogue with industry experts. In my view, it is precisely this innovation that represents the evolution and future of Italian tradition and craftsmanship.” Francesca Nori
This is a significant milestone not only for our community but for the entire ACM. It serves as a virtuous example of passion, tenacity, willpower, and perseverance that led Francesca and her partner, Francesco, to achieve this important milestone.
We could not be prouder.
