Overview & Objectives

The Academic Master in Alta Moda, Fashion Design is addressed to graduates who wish to complete or to enhance their cultural and professional experience in Alta Moda, a unique and exclusive field within Fashion Design.

Traditionally, Alta Moda or Haute Couture is the creation of unique tailor-made garments made mainly by hand using high quality fabrics, decorations, applications and embroideries with extreme attention to details.

The objectives are aimed at providing conceptual competence and tools necessary to understand the new design narratives, technologies and contemporary market areas of Haute Couture: from research to experimentation, from innovation to the final realization of the garment. Participants also have the opportunity to gain direct experience by developing research projects on specific topics, collaborating with the most important professionals and the most prestigious brands.

Upon completion of the Academic Master in Alta Moda, Fashion Design students will be able to pursue a career as Designers inside the Creative Offices of Haute Couture ateliers and in leading companies in Prét-à-Porter or to work as Product Office Managers and to cover various professional roles in Fashion: from the design of a collection to textile and print design, embellishment up to the creation of their own business.

The Academic Master in Alta Moda, Fashion Design, is addressed to graduates holding a Bachelor Degree or other equivalent study title recognized according to the current regulations related to the course and who would like to begin a study path and a career in Alta Moda.

To be eligible for the course, students must have:

  • Bachelor Degree or Bachelor of Arts related to the course of study of the Master
  • Bachelor Degree or Bachelor of Arts different from the above mentioned and not related to the study path of the Master, upon evaluation of the Academic Directorship on the eligibility of the application
  • Professionals with proven experience in the field and students holding a specialization or non-academic study titles related to the study path, upon evaluation of the Academic Directorship on the eligibility of the application

In order to maintain the high quality of the learning experience, the Academic Master in Alta Moda, Fashion Design observes a limited-enrolment policy. To be admitted in the course, applicants are required to submit their resume, motivational letter and portfolio for evaluation and to pass an admission interview with the Academic Directorship.

The course consists of various elements: the study of the evolution of style with respect to Haute Couture garments, the variety of techniques aimed at acquiring skills with raw materials, technological and experimental aspects, the production system of Alta Moda, the importance of archive research, supply chain and the fair system, fashion communication with brand positioning and marketing strategies. The design methodology process, research and experimentation methods, creative representation and presentation of the project. Furthermore, students will enhance the study experience through the Industry Projects carried out in collaboration with important manufacturers and maisons.

The research internship is carried out by the students as a part of the curriculum and carries academic credits and can be undertaken with companies located throughout the national territory.
