Project TRANSMISSIONS HERITAGE AND NEW CREATION

Industry Project in collaboration with CRISTOBAL BALENCIAGA MUSEOA

Accademia Costume & Moda is the only Italian education Institution invited to take part in a very ambitious project generated by Museo Cristobal Balenciaga in Getaria, hometown of the Couturier. ACM participated with: Central Saint Martins, Shenkar College of Engineering, Design and Arts Parsons School of Design, Aalto University School of Arts, Design and Architecture, The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, Iceland Academy of the Arts, ArtEz University of the Arts, Kyoto Seika University, Osaka Institute of Fashion, IED Madrid Bilbao International Art and Fashion. The project included two phases, one didactic and one extra-didactic.

Industry Brief

All the students participated in the kick-off of the project that included the vision and analysis of the toiles developed upon the basis of the selected models and the link with the Museum Balenciaga team. On this occasion the pieces were illustrated, and each student replicatde a toile to define the understanding of the constructive methods that characterize it.

Students developed an individual project experimenting one’s own research process and creation, whose results will take the shape of an outfit arising from the knowledges aquired.
The looks resulting from the process were assessed both by their professors and by those responsible for the project at the Museum, making a final selection of creations for their exhibition in Getaria in 2021.

Evaluation criteria for each project were the following:
•Research & Documentation
•Analysis & application of contens about shape evolution, Balenciaga influence…
•Innovationin the shape/volumen proposal, aesthetics, techniques, or materials
•Technical competence
•Sustainability criteria
•Presentation
