RomeThe Academic Master in Menswear Design in partnership with Brioni is aimed at graduates who want to complete or deepen their cultural and professional learning from the initial standpoint of men’s fashion.
The course aims to create highly qualified designers capable of supporting international competitiveness of the fashion system both within the product system and strategic business processes, through knowledge and design methodologies as well as techniques linked to the specific research of men’s fashion design and its non-binary application. At the end of the course the student will be able to apply the skills acquired in the design process through multidisciplinary design experiences, involving study areas of fabrics and materials, business strategies, and fundamental critical interpretation of current contemporary cultural phenomena.
From the exclusive made to measure tailoring industry, the masters course covers skills in the various areas of the sector and is made up of various elements of a cultural, technical and design nature. The learning process includes an induction, which contributes to creating exploration of initial skills and the most important part dedicated to brand research projects, the fulcrum of the course, in which students design collections with industry partners to consolidate the skills acquired and work to identify the complex balance between their own creative identity and the brand design codes. Following the curricular internship, the Final Assessment: an autonomous design project whose aim is to complete the design journey with the development of an independent, personal, and innovative vision.
During this process the students will not only reflect upon their work within the context of different design theories, diverse design methodological approaches, to enrich the research experience but to also support the identification of a personal design process, undertaken with the most relevant companies in the supply chain, key elements of the learning.
The Master has a total duration of one year for 1500 hours in total, divided into lectures and practical studio sessions, individual study as well as complementary activities, and internships. From the History of Fashion, with a focus on the history of men’s uniforms and their relationship with contemporaneity dress, to the prototyping which takes place at the Brioni headquarters in Penne, the heart of the company’s tailoring and exploration. Along with contemporary digital technologies and applications, to the typology of specialized materials, and the activities of Professional Planning are accompanied by in-depth studies on the merits of Art Direction and a fundamental analysis of the relationship with Phenomenology of contemporary arts. The combination of these areas supports the exploration and realization of the Fashion Design projects.
A designer who can handle the complexity of codes of masculinity and technicality of menswear garments can easily explore a broad spectrum of areas in terms of fashion design. For this reason, the Master is aimed at students who intend to specialize in menswear but also at any designer who wants to acquire more complex design skills to challenge the different facets of gender that the System is currently exploring.
The Academic Master in Menswear Design, is addressed to graduates holding a Bachelor Degree or other equivalent study title recognized according to the current regulations related to the course and who would like to begin a study path and a career in Alta Moda.

In order to maintain the high quality of the learning experience, the Academic Master in Menswear Design observes a limited-enrolment policy. To be admitted in the course, applicants are required to submit their resume, motivational letter and portfolio for evaluation and to pass an admission interview with the Academic Directorship.
The educational curriculum of the course is structured into modules, encompassing theoretical and practical frontal lessons, seminars with experts and professionals in the field, research and design workshops, visits to events – fairs and sector-specific exhibitions, exercises, final assessment (Final Work), and a training internship. At the end of each module/project, students undergo an evaluation test to earn the anticipated credits.
The project activities involve the collaboration of companies and professionals with the aim of merging technical skills, research, experimentation, and the development of creative models. Professionals involved in projects and masterclasses, as well as the study of specific Case Histories, contribute to fostering critical thinking and debate about the current state of the fashion industry and its future challenges. Upon completing this comprehensive pathway, the student will gain not only creative growth but also cultural knowledge and technical skills for a complete development of creative, strategic, and methodological-project capacities.
Alongside the basic theoretical and theoretical-practical training activities included in the curriculum: History of Fashion, Pattern Making, Graphic Design, Material Typology, and the complementary or related training activities: Professionalism Design, there is a significant number of hours dedicated to characterizing training activities with Latest Trends in Visual Arts, aimed at providing the skills to face teaching in Fashion Design. In this latter, the number of hours covers all the projects carried out during the year, both in terms of project review and theoretical and theoretical-practical activities included to provide students with more detailed knowledge in the scope of the briefs. This course includes guest lecturers to further broaden the discipline’s perspective and provide students with a comprehensive view of the sector’s scenarios.
