LUIGI VERGA INDUSTRY PROJECT | VISITA IN AZIENDA

Our MA in Alta Moda, Fashion Design students recently took part in an immersive visit to Tessitura Stamperia Luigi Verga in Como, a recognised excellence within the Made in Italy textile supply chain and an international benchmark for silk printing and fabric innovation.

Welcomed by Marila Gambini and the Verga team, and accompanied by our alumnus and Project Leader Albino D’Amato, the students were guided through every stage of textile production. From fabric preparation and printing processes to final quality control, the visit offered a comprehensive insight into the technical precision, artisanal mastery and attention to detail that define the company’s work.

A particularly significant moment of the day was the access granted to the company’s extraordinary textile archive. This remarkable collection of patterns, drawings, samples and colour variations spans decades of research and collaboration with leading fashion houses. More than a historical repository, the archive stands as a living source of inspiration — a dynamic tool for analysis, reinterpretation and creative development.

The visit forms part of the Industry Project developed in collaboration with Luigi Verga, entitled “RISCATTO – The New Life of Matter”. The project invites students to engage in both a poetic and practical reflection on the intrinsic value of materials, their memory, and the regenerative potential activated through creative practice. Through the development of capsule collections, students are encouraged to consider fabric not merely as decorative surface, but as narrative and structural element capable of shaping meaning.

The day concluded with an open discussion with Verga’s professionals, during which students presented their initial concepts and research directions. This direct exchange between education and industry provided a valuable opportunity for critical dialogue, constructive feedback and strategic orientation.

Experiences such as this reinforce the importance of an educational approach that integrates creative research, material culture and collaboration with leading manufacturing partners.

Our sincere thanks go to Marila Gambini and the entire Luigi Verga team for their warm welcome, generosity and meaningful contribution to the professional growth of our students.
