Webinar Menswear is Fluid

Webinar Menswear is Fluid
19 march 2025 02:00 pm (cet)
Adrien Roberts – International Director of Education

Why are we discussing gender and moreover why is gender specific identification used to describe clothing or a study path such as ACM’s Menswear Masters? Afterall, are we not heading towards a more gender free / non-binary society?

Let’s take a look at the culture and history, for over a hundred-years garments designated for Men, in most cultures, have universally moved over to be worn by both genders, trousers, shirts, tee-shirts, sweaters, coasts and jackets have evolved to become standard elements in all wardrobes.
Tailoring, which until the 60s was strictly in the male domain, this was challenged by Yves Saint Laurent. A year after his couture tuxedo, he proposed his first pantsuit in his Spring-Summer 1967 collection, and the pantsuit for women became universally accepted.

Today we see Brioni and many brands continuing the theme of tailoring as Saint Laurent adapted the traditionally masculine suit for the female body almost 60 years ago. Currently both ready-to- wear and couture catwalks are flooded with tailoring, for both genders, and a slower progress, but equally noticeable move also from the traditional womens domain toward an emancipated male wardrobe.

Exploring traditional and contemporary Menswear and Tailoring benefits all designer regardless of gender outcomes.

The webinar will be held in English language.
