The Master in Fashion Sustainability & Industry Evolution at Accademia Costume & Moda has officially concluded the 2023/2024 academic year’s Industry Project in collaboration with Project Officina Creativa. This collaboration, centered around the theme “Circular Business Model,” focused on addressing the pressing issue of post-industrial textile waste within the fashion industry.
The project’s primary goal was to assist Project Officina Creativa in developing strategies for managing and recovering textile waste generated in their production processes, specifically the “after-cut” leftover (scraps from garment cutting) and “end-of-roll” surplus textiles. These materials often go unused, and the project sought creative and sustainable ways to integrate them into the company’s manufacturing process, while maintaining their intrinsic value.
The students embarked on the project by thoroughly understanding the company’s operations, visiting its headquarters, and researching best practices in sustainability. They then worked in teams to propose strategic solutions to address textile waste. The solutions were to focus on maintaining the highest possible value of the waste, taking into account the environmental and social impacts, and ensuring the integration of these solutions into the company’s existing production system.
This collaboration between Accademia Costume & Moda and Project Officina Creativa has successfully brought together the next generation of fashion professionals to tackle real-world sustainability challenges. By focusing on circular business models, students have not only gained invaluable experience in sustainability within the fashion industry but have also contributed creative solutions to a pressing global issue. This marks an exciting step forward in the continuous evolution of the fashion industry towards a more sustainable future.
