BONAUDO INDUSTRY PROJECT | MASTER FASHION SUSTAINABILITY & INDUSTRY EVOLUTION

Accademia Costume & Moda proudly announces the successful completion of the Master in Fashion Sustainability and Industry Evolution project for the academic year 2023/2024 in partnership with Bonaudo. This initiative, running from June 7 to July 17, 2024, was conducted in collaboration with Bonaudo, a renowned leader in sustainable leather production. Guided by project leaders Elisa Pagliaroli, Fabrizio Amoruso, and Caterina Mazzei, and supported by Spin 360, a partner of the Master, the program empowered students to address and enhance sustainability practices in the fashion industry.

About Bonaudo

Founded in 1923 in Chivasso, Bonaudo is a pioneering company in the leather tanning sector, renowned for its commitment to sustainability under the leadership of Alessandro Iliprandi since 1996. Iliprandi’s visionary approach has transformed the company, emphasizing environmental, economic, and social responsibility. Bonaudo operates with a philosophy centered on enhancing the quality of life for its employees, prioritizing eco-friendly practices, and fostering innovation.

Relocating to Cuggiono (MI) in 2006, within the protected Ticino Park, Bonaudo exemplifies sustainable industrial practices. Their facilities incorporate advanced machinery, energy-efficient systems, and water-saving processes. Over 85% of their finished products derive from renewable, biological sources, reflecting their dedication to minimizing environmental impact.

Bonaudo’s certifications include:

  • Ethical certification ensuring equal treatment for all employees.
  • ISO 9001, 14001, and 45001 certifications for quality, environmental, and occupational safety.
  • UNI 11427 Eco-Sustainable Product certification.
  • Leather Working Group (LWG) certification.

Additionally, Bonaudo’s organizational model under Legislative Decree 231/2001 ensures compliance with legal and ethical standards, securing operational continuity and client trust.

The Project: Sustainability Assessment and Improvement

The project’s main objective was to draft a sustainability report for Bonaudo, aligning with the Corporate Social Responsibility Directive (CSRD), Global Reporting Initiative Standards (GRI), and European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS).

Methodology and Phases

  1. Assessment Phase (June 7 – June 25): Students conducted comprehensive research, data collection, and document analysis to evaluate Bonaudo’s sustainability practices. Using GRI Universal Standards (GRI 1, 2, 3)and ESRS guidelines, students assessed the company’s impacts and integrated sustainable development within its business strategy. ESG verticals guided the structured division of tasks among participants.
  2. Improvement Plan Phase (June 26 – July 17): Following the mid-revision on June 25, students developed targeted improvement plans addressing areas identified for enhancement. These proposals, presented during the final meeting with Bonaudo, outlined actionable strategies to advance the company’s sustainability initiatives.

Throughout the project, students were closely supported by Spin 360, ensuring their work aligned with professional and academic standards.

Outcomes and Impact

The collaboration between Accademia Costume & Moda and Bonaudo provided students with invaluable hands-on experience in sustainability reporting and strategic planning. It also reinforced Bonaudo’s position as a trailblazer in sustainable practices, showcasing the importance of industry-academia partnerships in driving innovation and responsibility in fashion.
