THE CUBE ARCHIVE | INDUSTRY PROJECT

In collaboration with the menswear archive, TheCube Archive, founded by Stefano Chiassai, our 3yr BA Costume & Fashion students embarked on a mission to reimagine the timeless men’s shirt. From experimenting with iconic pieces to sharing their unique creative perspectives, every step of their journey became a brand-new garment in the making.

Guided by Corinna Chiassai, Artistic Director, and Marius Hordijk, Co-founder, the students integrated their initial ideas with the rich array of inspiration provided by the archive. This project was not merely an academic exercise but an immersive experience that allowed the students to delve deeply into the world of fashion history and contemporary design. By drawing upon their vision, experiences, and cultural backgrounds, they brought diversity and individuality to the project, resulting in shirts that were truly unique and multifaceted.

The process began with students selecting pieces from TheCube Archive’s extensive collection of menswear. These pieces served as both a foundation and a canvas for innovation. Students deconstructed and analysed the garments, understanding the nuances of tailoring, fabric choice, and stylistic elements. This hands-on approach enabled them to grasp the essence of classic menswear while pushing the boundaries of traditional design.

Throughout the project, Corinna and Marius provided invaluable guidance, encouraging the students to explore bold ideas and refine their concepts. The students’ creations reflected a blend of historical reverence and modern reinterpretation, showcasing their ability to balance respect for the past with a forward-thinking mindset.

The collaboration culminated in a showcase where the students presented their reimagined shirts, each telling a story of creativity, craftsmanship, and cultural dialogue. This project exemplifies how education and industry can unite to nurture the next generation of fashion designers.

We are deeply thankful to TheCube Archive team for allowing our students to take part in this incredible journey. Their support and expertise have been instrumental in making this project a resounding success.
