Our Master in Accessories Design students have taken part in the Final Revision of the Industry Project developed in collaboration with Ferragamo, engaging with professionals from the Brand and presenting the outcomes of their design process.
Led by Project Leader Luigi Mulas Debois, with the support of Assistant Paolo Rinaldi, the project entitled “Sophisticated Every Day Tote Bag” aimed to develop a series of design proposals for a brand new sophisticated everyday tote bag, combining timeless elegance with functional performance.
The project explored a new line of high-end leather goods, integrating iconic hardware and branding elements while balancing luxury aesthetics with the demands of everyday use.
The brief invited students to engage with Ferragamo’s distinctive identity codes and explore the balance between luxury, innovation and research at the heart of the project. Starting from the Brand’s heritage and research into the Ferragamo Archive, students explored new design scenarios, questioning how the brand’s history could be reinterpreted through a contemporary language.
Particular attention was given to the development and treatment of materials, with leather at the centre of the research, alongside metals, new applied technologies and opportunities for personalisation. The aim was to translate this research into a tote bag that combines functionality, ergonomics and practicality with Ferragamo’s values of femininity, uniqueness and exclusivity.
The Final Revision represented an opportunity for direct engagement with the industry, during which students presented their projects to four professionals from the Ferragamo Team, bringing their work into dialogue with different areas of expertise and perspectives.
Present in the room:
– Andrea Renieri, Head Designer of Women’s and Men’s Leather Goods;
– Francesca Maltinti, Senior Designer of Women’s and Men’s Leather Goods;
– Lisa Giommetti, Global Merchandising Director Women’s Leathergoods;
– Linda Rosellini, HR Senior Manager.
The exchange gave students the opportunity to receive professional feedback and assess their projects from a real-world industry perspective, exploring aspects related to design, brand identity, materials, product development and merchandising.
The presence of professionals from different areas gave students a broader understanding of the dynamics involved in developing a product within a leading international fashion brand.
The journey does not end with the Final Revision. Students whose projects stand out will have the opportunity to present their work once again at Ferragamo’s headquarters in Osmannoro, where they will engage directly with the Design Department and Merchandising Department.
An additional opportunity to bring their projects into a professional context and deepen their dialogue with the Brand.
Industry Projects are a fundamental part of the educational experience at Accademia Costume & Moda. They allow students to work on real briefs, engage with companies and professionals, and develop projects through direct dialogue with the industry.
On the Master in Accessories Design, research, product culture, experimentation and design skills come together through concrete professional experiences. Because studying at ACM also means putting your ideas to the test, receiving professional feedback and learning how to transform a vision into a project that can enter the real world.
Our heartfelt thanks to Ferragamo for its trust, openness and valuable engagement with our students, and to all the brand’s professionals who supported this project by sharing their expertise, vision and experience.
