THECUBE ARCHIVE | ARCHIVE VISIT | MASTER IN MENSWEAR DESIGN

Our students from the MA in Menswear Design had the opportunity to visit TheCube Archive, a leading reality dedicated to the research, archiving and study of contemporary and vintage menswear.

An immersive experience that allowed students to engage directly with garments, materials and visual languages that have shaped the evolution of menswear, while deepening their understanding of research as a fundamental part of the creative process.

During the visit, students were able to closely explore a selection of archival pieces, observing their construction, details, craftsmanship and design experimentation, while understanding how each garment holds a story rooted in culture, innovation and social transformation.

The encounter with TheCube Archive also became an important opportunity to reflect on the theme of sustainability within today’s fashion system. More than ever, looking at the past means learning how to design the future with greater awareness. The study of archives, materials and processes becomes an essential tool for developing a more responsible, critical and conscious approach to design — one that values time, quality and product longevity.

For our MA in Menswear Design students, engaging with an archive of this kind means understanding that menswear is not simply about style or trends, but a constantly evolving cultural language capable of reflecting identities, social change and new contemporary visions.

The visit also highlighted how research represents an essential component in a designer’s education: observing, analysing, studying and building connections between past and present are fundamental processes in developing an authentic design vision.

Through experiences like this, Accademia Costume & Moda continues to offer its students meaningful opportunities to engage with companies, professionals and archives that actively contribute to shaping contemporary fashion culture.

Because designing fashion today also means learning how to read the past, interpret the present and imagine the future through study, research and creative awareness.
