The Master in Creative Knitwear Design for the academic year 2023/2024 at Accademia Costume & Moda has recently concluded successfully. This project saw talented students engaged in a deep and innovative exploration of knitwear. The educational programme provided students with the opportunity to work alongside a leading industry player, Iceberg, in an Industry Project titled “LOGOMANIAC – From Graphics to Fashion Working on the Extremes”.
The collaboration with Iceberg, an iconic brand in the fashion world, allowed students to delve into the brand’s DNAand reinterpret it in a contemporary way. Founded in 1974, Iceberg was pioneering in introducing the concept of luxury sportswear, revolutionising knitwear and elegant sportswear. With the goal of exploring logomania and references to the 1980s and 1990s, the students created a capsule collection of knitwear in line with future trends, with a strong emphasis on innovation, materials, and advanced techniques.
Project Leader, Simona Barbieri, along with assistant Chiara Borghi, guided the participants through a process requiring creativity, in-depth research, and experimentation, culminating in the design of a collection of 10 outfits that combined knitwear and other materials in an innovative way.
The students were required to develop individual projects, beginning with an in-depth analysis of Iceberg’s codes, reinterpreting them with an innovative approach. Each collection, aimed at the FW 25/26 season, had to meet specific objectives: balancing creativity and commerciality, exploring new shapes, stitches, and techniques in knitwear, and creating a narrative that conveyed the essence of the brand in a contemporary language. The result was a mix of proposals suitable both for the runway and the market.
The project methodology focused on analysing the brand’s DNA and market positioning, encouraging students to create a project that was both innovative and true to the brand’s roots. The experimentation involved not only materials but also knitwear processing techniques, with a focus on graphics, stitches, yarns, and special treatments. Each student developed a workbook complete with sketches, moodboards, iconographic research, and a final document of analysis and evaluation.
The Master in Creative Knitwear Design at Accademia Costume & Moda represented an important opportunity for professional growth for the participants, who had the chance to challenge themselves with a prestigious brand like Iceberg. The final outcome demonstrated a perfect synthesis of innovation and respect for tradition, confirming the students’ ability to be key players in the international fashion scene.
Accademia Costume & Moda continues to be a benchmark for training professionals ready to face the challenges of the fashion world, blending creativity, research, and technique in a path that best prepares students for the future.
