In November 2024, Accademia Costume & Moda (ACM) inaugurated its new campus in the former Magazzini allo Statuto (MAS), located just steps away from Piazza Vittorio, in the heart of Rome’s Esquilino district. This ambitious project represents not only a milestone for the Academy, but also a virtuous example of urban regeneration and conservation-focused restoration, transforming a historic space into a cultural and innovative hub for fashion and design.
The former Magazzini allo Statuto, an example of Umbertine architecture from the late 19th century, has been meticulously restored to its former splendour while respecting its historic integrity and adapting it to meet the needs of a state-of-the-art Academy. The restoration project recovered 6,000 square metres spread across six floors, including digitalised classrooms, specialised laboratories, and social spaces such as terraces and a rooftop, creating a dynamicand modern environment.
The new campus is designed to accommodate up to 700 students, offering a place for connection and growth, where tradition and technology coexist. With 1,100 square metres dedicated to digitalised classrooms and 1,000 square metres for specialised laboratories, ACM merges Italian artisanal techniques with cutting-edge expertise, meeting the challenges of an ever-evolving industry.
The choice of Esquilino, a historic and multicultural district, reflects the Academy’s commitment to fostering an education rooted in the local area while embracing a global vision. The campus thus becomes a meeting point for students, residents, local businesses, and craftspeople, contributing to the enhancement of the neighbourhood and its social and cultural development.
Through local initiatives, workshops, and collaborative projects, ACM acts as a bridge between communities and institutions, strengthening connections and creating synergies. The new campus is not just a place of study but a shining example of how culture and creativity can be harnessed as tools for collective transformation, giving back to the city of Rome.
