COLLATERAL INDUSTRY PROJECT | MID REVISION | MASTER FASHION STYLING

The Industry Project developed in collaboration with Collater.al has reached a new and significant stage for our MA in Fashion Styling students: the Mid Revision. A central moment within the academic journey, where creative research, visual direction and editorial thinking are presented, discussed and refined through direct dialogue with professionals active within today’s communication landscape.

Coordinated by Cristiana Rivellino Santella and led by Project Leaders Luca Di Marco and Alessandro Timpanaro, the project Editorial Series – Ambassador Project” was conceived with the aim of exploring the languages of contemporary digital publishing through a critical and creative lens. At the heart of the brief lies the relationship between fashion storytelling, visual culture, community and social platforms: elements that are now essential in creating relevant and authentic content.

The Mid Revision represented a valuable opportunity for students to present the evolution of their editorial concepts, sharing the development of their ideas and receiving professional feedback on both strategic aspects and aesthetic choices. More than a simple review stage, this milestone allowed students to test the strength of their narratives, the coherence of their visual identities and the ability of their projects to engage with the dynamic landscape of digital media.

During the review, particular attention was given to the creation of original editorial formats capable of engaging contemporary audiences. Students were encouraged to reflect not only on styling choices, but also on tone of voice, image sequencing, platform-specific communication and the role of storytelling in shaping the perception of a brand or creative project.

As part of the Industry Project, students also had the opportunity to meet Stefano Carloni, photographer, for a dedicated session focused on deepening their understanding of the role of photography within the editorial field. His contribution offered a practical perspective on how imagery extends beyond aesthetics, becoming a tool for storytelling, emotional impact and cultural positioning.

From composition to atmosphere, from casting to visual rhythm, the discussion highlighted how photographic direction can define the identity of a project and strengthen its message across multiple media channels.

Experiences such as this are fundamental within the MA in Fashion Styling, where styling is understood not only as image-making, but as a broader practice connected to publishing, art direction and visual communication. The integration of industry feedback with contributions from working professionals enables students to develop a contemporary, practical and informed understanding of the profession.

For students, engaging directly with platforms such as Collater.al means understanding how fashion content is conceived, curated and distributed today. It means learning how to build visual narratives that are culturally relevant, strategically solid and capable of generating authentic connections with communities.

This collaboration once again confirms the value of an educational model rooted in direct dialogue with industry. Within the MA in Fashion Styling, projects such as this allow students to combine creativity, critical thinking and professional awareness, preparing them to confidently interpret the future of fashion imagery and contemporary editorial communication.
