We are proud to announce that Morgan Boyce and Simone Rizzato, students of the Master in Creative Knitwear Design at Accademia Costume & Moda, have won the prestigious Loro Piana Knit Design Award 2025, the international competition promoted by Loro Piana under the patronage of the Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana.
This is an outstanding achievement for Accademia Costume & Moda, which stood out as the only Italian school among the five global finalists, alongside prestigious institutions such as the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) in New York, the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, the Swedish School of Textiles, and École Duperré in Paris.
Now in its ninth edition, the Loro Piana Knit Design Award celebrates emerging international talents in creative knitwear, promoting the innovative use of Loro Piana’s iconic yarns. The 2025 edition’s theme, Winter Legacy – Translating Linen into Heritage Knitwear, challenged students to reinterpret linen—traditionally a summer fibre—in a winter context, combining it with noble yarns to create unique and refined knitwear pieces.
The project titled “Paracadute”, designed by Morgan Boyce and Simone Rizzato, captured the jury’s attention for its exceptional interpretation of the theme, originality of concept and technical craftsmanship. Inspired by stories from Boyce’s family, where post-WWII parachutes were reused to make garments for communities, the project narrates a story of resilience, transformation and memory, bridging past and future.
The panel of experts who selected the Accademia Costume & Moda students as winners included representatives from Loro Piana, among them Damien Bertrand, CEO of Loro Piana and Chair of the jury, as well as prominent figures such as Gilles Denis, Editor of Le Point; Pauline Dujancourt, founder and creative director of the brand Pauline Dujancourt; Anna Dello Russo, creative consultant, fashion stylist, and former editor at Vogue Japan; Satoshi Kuwata, founder and creative director of the brand SETCHU; Antonio Mancinelli, journalist, author, fashion critic and university lecturer; and finally, Kimberly Drew, curator and creative consultant.
Alongside the trophy, Morgan and Simone will be awarded a scholarship, a career opportunity at Loro Piana (a Maison of the LVMH Group), and the chance to complete their project in the brand’s knitwear ateliers in Piedmont, working closely with master artisans to finalise the design. The finished garment will be showcased at Loro Piana’s stand at Pitti Filati in Florence, taking place 1–3 July 2025.
Winning the Loro Piana Knit Design Award 2025 once again confirms Accademia Costume & Moda’s position as a leading institution in fashion design education, with a strong focus on research, innovation, heritage, and cross-disciplinary creativity.
A well-deserved recognition of the talent and vision of our students.
Congratulations to Morgan Boyce and Simone Rizzato: your achievement is a source of immense pride for the entire ACM community.
