The Industry Project developed in collaboration with Benedetta Bruzziches has reached an important new stage for our MA in Accessories Design students: the Mid Revision. A key moment within the educational journey, where research, experimentation and design vision are shared, discussed and refined through direct dialogue with the brand.
Led by Project Leader Luigi Mulas Debois, with the support of Project Assistant Paolo Rinaldi, the project titled “Dualità Materica nell’Accessorio Contemporaneo” invites students to engage with one of the most distinctive aspects of the Benedetta Bruzziches universe: the balance between opposites. Function and ornament, everyday life and dream, structure and fluidity, matter and light.
The Mid Revision offered students the opportunity to present the progress of their individual capsule collections, showing the evolution of concepts, material experimentation and strategic thinking developed during the first phase of the project. It was a valuable occasion to receive feedback, test the coherence of each proposal and further strengthen the relationship between creative intuition and market awareness.
At the core of the brief lies the dialogue between two materials that symbolise the identity of the brand: leather and crystal mesh. Warm, solid and functional on one side; luminous, fluid and transformative on the other. Students were asked to reinterpret these contrasting elements within a unified collection capable of spanning both the daily and evening worlds, while maintaining a strong and recognisable design language.
During the Mid Revision, particular attention was given to how students were translating this duality into tangible accessories. From silhouettes and proportions to closures, finishes and surface treatments, every design decision was discussed in relation to the brand’s positioning and aesthetic codes.
Alongside bags conceived for everyday use and evening occasions, students also began presenting early developments of their objects d’art: sculptural bags in metal or methacrylate designed as timeless statements where the accessory becomes an artistic and conceptual object. This dimension of the project adds a further layer of complexity, encouraging students to think beyond functionality and towards narrative, symbolism and desire.
More than a simple checkpoint, the Mid Revision represents a fundamental pedagogical moment. It allows students to understand how a contemporary accessories collection is built not only through creativity, but through structure, consistency and the ability to move across different product categories with a clear point of view.
For our students, confronting the expectations of a brand such as Benedetta Bruzziches means entering the real dynamics of the luxury accessories industry. It requires the ability to analyse positioning, identify opportunities, innovate responsibly and communicate a project in a professional way.
As the project moves towards its final phase, students will continue refining their collections, developing a complete proposal where daily products, evening pieces and conceptual objects coexist within one coherent narrative.
This collaboration once again reflects the value of an educational model rooted in direct industry exchange. Within the MA in Accessories Design, experiences like this allow students to combine craftsmanship, experimentation and strategic thinking — preparing them to shape the future of contemporary accessory design with confidence and originality.
