Milan, 17th September 2024 – Our students once again took the spotlight at Milan Fashion Week during the tenth edition of the prestigious Milano Moda Graduate, the contest promoted by the Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana, celebrating the excellence of Italian fashion schools both nationally and internationally.
We are proud to announce that Tommaso La Sala, a student from the BA in Costume & Fashion at Accademia Costume & Moda (ACM), received the “Special Mention” award for his extraordinary talent. The award was presented by Renzo Rosso, President of the OTB Group, during the grand finale of the contest, held in the iconic Sala Cariatidi at the Palazzo Reale in Milan.
Representing Accademia Costume & Moda in the “Fashion Design” category of the competition were Alessio Mussati and Tommaso La Sala, both alumni of the BA in Costume & Fashion. Their Capsule Collections captivated both the jury and the audience, once again demonstrating the creative and technical excellence our students bring to the fashion world.
Tommaso La Sala presented “Iruka”, a Capsule Collection that recalls the essential lines and details of traditional costumes, transposed into a women’s clothing collection. The wind becomes a symbol of intuition and vitality, freeing the collection from the dust of the past. The creative process is inspired by the four stages of Galileo Galilei’s experimental method, applied to typically male garments: tailored jackets, technical down jackets, and shirts that, driven by the wind, pull tight at the front, creating a tension that emphasises movement.
Alessio Mussati presented his collection titled “Quelli che vanno”, a visual narrative evoking an imaginary journey. Tartan skirts, plastic fabrics reminiscent of plastic bags, quilted blankets, torn and worn-out trousers, pierced shoes: in the creative laboratory of Quelli che vanno, everything transforms into a divergent space. The collection refrains from appropriating the images, characteristics, or styles of the people encountered along this imaginary journey, instead offering a reflection on the marks left by time and travel.
As part of the contest promoted by YKK, two other alumni of the BA in Costume & Fashion, Michael Di Giovanni and Tobia Setten, presented a new piece from their Capsule Collections, entirely crafted with zips provided by the YKK group. Their creations showcased a remarkable ability for technical experimentation and innovative use of materials.
The students’ work was evaluated by a Jury chaired by Renzo Rosso, Chairman di OTB, and composed of Carlo Capasa, Chairman CNMI; Beppe Angiolini, Talent scout, Owner of Sugar and Honorary President of Camera Buyer Italia; Hu Bing, Fashion Style Leader; Giampietro Baudo, Global Editor-in- Chief at L’OFFICIEL, responsible for L’OFFICIEL USA, Italy, Paris, UK, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Japan, Mexico, Spain, and Switzerland; Roberta Benaglia, CEO & Founding Partner of Style Capital SGR; Teneisha Carr, Founder & Editor In Chief of Blanc Magazine; Gemma D’Auria, Senior Partner e Global Leader of Fashion & Luxury sector, McKinsey & Company; Riccardo Grassi, President RG Showroom; Segoo Kang, Merchandiser head of department, International collection / Woman’s and Men’s Fashion Department, Hankyu Hanshin Department Stores, Inc.; Chloe King, Fashion Market & Editorial Director, Neiman Marcus Group; Cristina Manfredi, Journalist, Author, Communication & Story Telling Advisor, Creative Entrepreneur; Stefano Martinetto – Founder and CEO Tomorrow Group, Tomorrow Ltd; Laura Milani, Head of Fashion & Luxury, Made in Italy Hub, Tiktok Italia; Angela Missoni, Chairman Gruppo Missoni; Bosse Myhr, Selfridges, Director of Menswear, Womenswear & Childrenswear; Rodolphe Nantas, Men’s Fashion Director at The Webster Store; Giacomo Piazza, Founder & CEO, 247 Global; Athina Nikolaidou, General Manager Italy & Greece, Wella Company; Masahiko Okahara, Commercial Director YKK Italia; Stefano Roncato, MFFASHION Editor in Chief; Alessandro Sartori, Artistic Director ZEGNA; Sabrina Scarpellini, Co-Founder & Fashion Director, MASSIMOBONINI; Sara Sozzani Maino, Creative Director, Fondazione Sozzani, International New Talent and Brands Ambassador, CNMI, Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana; Cathy Yeonchoo Lee, Global Creative Director, Cross-cultural Business in Fashion and Luxury Consumer Goods Seoul Fashion Week, Seoul Metropolitan Government.; Mocien Wang, Buyer, SND – Selection of Nonconformist Design.
