Since 1969, a prize that keeps Irene Brin’s vision alive and continues her support for new generations of creative talent.

Two women,
one shared vision

Rosana Pistolese and Irene Brin shared a deep friendship, nurtured by the same curiosity for fashion, costume, art and the transformations taking place in society.

A journalist, writer, gallerist and leading figure in twentieth-century Italian culture, Irene Brin played a pivotal role in shaping the narrative and international recognition of Italian fashion. Through writing that was cultured, light and unmistakably her own, she had a unique ability to recognise the value of ideas and identify talent, often before others did.

“An exquisite writer and exceptionally brilliant journalist, she devoted herself in particular to the study of costume and fashion from the early post-war years onwards. She understood that, after the inevitable interruption caused by the war, a new fashion could restore continuity to costume and create new opportunities for our country.
For twenty years, Irene Brin represented the aristocratic world of the new fashion that flourished in the aftermath of the confused and tragic post-war period, thanks to the courage of the few who reinvented themselves as couturiers or merchants.
Abroad, she became the first gracious ambassador of the new Italian fashion. Together with Emilio Pucci and Gian Battista Giorgini, Irene Brin was an attentive collaborator, an interpreter and an elegant advocate of Italian fashion throughout the world.
She worked until the final days of her life and took with her the gentle secret and profound understanding of twenty years of costume.”

Continuing what
Irene believed in

Rosana shared the same belief: that fashion was culture, and that new generations should not only be educated, but listened to, supported and given the opportunity to emerge.

Following the death of her friend in 1969, Rosana Pistolese established the Irene Brin Prize to preserve her memory and carry forward her commitment to supporting young talent.

The Prize was conceived as a celebration for the Academy and as a moment in which a new voice could be recognised and encouraged to find its place.

Since then, the Irene Brin Prize has represented one of the most authentic expressions of ACM’s identity: a connection between friendship, memory and the future that renews, generation after generation, its belief in talent.
