OSTINELLI SETA INDUSTRY PROJECT | MASTER FABRICS INNOVATION DESIGN

Our Master in Fabrics Innovation Design students presented their final designs for the Industry Project in collaboration with Ostinelli Seta to Barbara Roncoroni, Style Office Manager, and Tiziana Monti, consultant. The project brief, designed by Marco Mastroianni, Responsable Crèation et recherche Matières LVMH and Scientific Director of the Master, was inspired by David Lynch’s 1984 film adaptation of Frank Herbert’s novel ‘Dune’. The objective of the work was to explore the themes of power, economics and ecology, central to both the novel and the film.

Under the guidance of project leader Giampiero Arcese, the students explored these themes through innovative fabric design. They used various advanced techniques, including screen printing, devoré and coatings, to create unique and meaningful prints. This project was an exploration of conceptual complexity, for which students were encouraged to go beyond superficial interpretations using their creativity, engaging in a deep analysis of the themes and cultural contexts presented in ‘Dune’, to produce prints that were not only visually striking, but also rich in meaning.

The company’s commitment to innovation and excellence made it a perfect partner, offering the students the opportunity to explore cutting-edge techniques and materials.

The aim of the project was to fuse personal interpretation with modern technological tools, resulting in original and technically sophisticated designs.
