ERNESTO PIGNI INDUSTRY PROJECT | MASTER MENSWEAR DESIGN

Our Master in Menswear Design students have embarked on a new Industry Project in collaboration with Ernesto Pigni, designer and textile expert.

The project invites students to reflect on the concept of the uniform, transforming it from a purely functional and historical symbol into a source of inspiration for a contemporary capsule collection

At the launch, each participant was assigned – by random draw – a type of uniform falling within three main areas:

– Craft and professions: doctor, chef, astronaut;

– Military uniforms: air force pilot, navy soldier, paratrooper;

– Sport and leisure: skier, footballer, jockey, diver, motorcyclist, boy scout.

Starting from historical and iconographic research, students are asked to reconstruct the evolution of their assigned uniform over time, analysing its silhouettes, details, materials, and cultural meanings. Building on this research, each student will develop a capsule collection consisting of at least three total-look outfits, articulated across different product categories: outerwear, shirts, trousers, jersey, knitwear, and textile accessories.

The project challenges students to combine creative vision, historical awareness, and commercial viability, transforming an iconic garment into an innovative and contemporary proposal.

A heartfelt thank you to Ernesto Pigni for giving our students the opportunity to engage with such a complex yet stimulating theme.
