ACM Alumnus Gianluca Falaschi wins Best Costume Designer at Le Maschere del Teatro Italiano 2026

Costume Designer and Accademia Costume & Moda Alumnus Gianluca Falaschi has been recognised for his work on Marivaux’s Le false confidenze, directed by Arturo Cirillo. The award marks another milestone in a career spanning theatre and opera across major Italian and international stages.

A new major recognition for Gianluca Falaschi, Accademia Costume & Moda Alumnus and Costume Designer working across the international theatre and opera scene.

Falaschi has won Best Costume Designer at Le Maschere del Teatro Italiano 2026 for his costume design for Pierre de Marivaux’s Le false confidenze, directed by Arturo Cirillo. The awards ceremony took place on 19 September 2026 at the Teatro Argentina in Rome and was later broadcast on Rai Uno.

Produced by  Teatro di Roma – Teatro Nazionale, Marche Teatro and Teatro Stabile di Catania, Le false confidenzewas one of the leading productions at the 2026 awards, receiving three accolades: Best Director for Arturo Cirillo, Best Costume Designer for Gianluca Falaschi and Best Lighting Design for Pasquale Mari.

Falaschi designed the costumes for the production directed by and starring Arturo Cirillo, alongside Elena Sofia Ricci and a cast including Giacomo Vigentini, Rosario Giglio, Lalla Esposito, Francesco Petruzzelli, Giulia Trippetta and Giacinto Palmarini. Set design is by Dario Gessati, with lighting design by Pasquale Mari.

A second Le Maschere del Teatro Italiano award

The 2026 award marks a return to Le Maschere del Teatro Italiano for Gianluca Falaschi. In 2023, the ACM Alumnus had already received the award for Best Costumes for Cyrano de Bergerac, once again directed by Arturo Cirillo.

Together, the two recognitions reflect the continuity of a professional journey shaped by research, design culture and an in-depth understanding of costume for performance.

From Accademia Costume & Moda to major international stages

Born in Rome in 1977, Gianluca Falaschi completed his artistic studies at Accademia Costume & Moda, alongside studies in architecture and theatre literature. Throughout his career, he has worked as a Costume Designer for leading theatre and opera institutions in Italy and internationally, including Teatro alla Scala in Milan, Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, Sydney Opera House, Semperoper Dresden and Theater Basel.

His longstanding collaboration with director Davide Livermore includes more than thirty productions and three season-opening productions at Teatro alla Scala: Attila, Tosca and Macbeth. In 2013, Falaschi also received the Franco Abbiati Award for Best Costume Designer for Ciro in Babilonia.

The 2026 Le Maschere del Teatro Italiano award represents another chapter in a career that continues to bring Italian Costume Design to national and international stages.
