RATTI INDUSTRY PROJECT | BRIEF LAUNCH | MASTER IN FABRICS INNOVATION DESIGN

Our Master in Fabrics Innovation Design students have embarked on a new Industry Project in collaboration with Ratti, one of the most internationally respected companies in the textile and silk sector.

Entitled “Ratti, Heritage & Innovation” and led by Mirko Bottai, the project represents an important educational opportunity for students, who will engage directly with a company that has combined tradition, research and innovation in textile manufacturing for over seventy years.

The project officially began with the Launch Brief, a key moment of exchange and dialogue with the brand, followed by a visit to Ratti’s headquarters in Como and its extraordinary historical archive. During the visit, students had the opportunity to explore the company’s textile heritage first-hand, gaining a deeper understanding of the value of its collection and the central role of the archive as a source of research and inspiration for contemporary creativity.

Founded in 1945 by Antonio Ratti, the company has developed a unique ecosystem that integrates industrial production, cultural research and the preservation of textile heritage, also through the Fondazione Antonio Ratti and the Museo Studio del Tessuto. This system has established Ratti as an international point of reference for textile culture and its contemporary evolution.

Within this framework, students are invited to develop a creative project starting from the macro-themes drawn from the Ratti archive, reinterpreting them through a personal and innovative perspective. The themes proposed by the company include: Paisley, Florals, Geometries, Landscapes, Animal Prints, Lace, Equestrian Motifs, Sport, Fruit and Vegetables, and Botany.

The objective of the project is to design new textile concepts for a variety of applications, including fashion, soft accessories, home and outdoor décor, with particular attention to material research, innovation and coherence with the brand’s heritage.

Students will therefore embark on a journey that combines heritage and experimentation, transforming the archive into a living design tool.

This Industry Project further reinforces one of the distinctive elements of the educational experience at Accademia Costume & Moda: a teaching methodology that constantly integrates research, design development and direct dialogue with industry, offering students the opportunity to engage with real challenges and contemporary professional scenarios.

Our sincere thanks go to the entire Ratti team for their warm welcome and for supporting our students throughout this valuable learning experience.
