The Woolmark Company and Accademia Costume & Moda together for
MY WARDROBE MAN OUTERWEAR TO INNOVATE WOOL CRAFTMANSHIP
Florence, 7th January – Unveiled at Pitti Uomo MY WARDROBE MAN OUTERWEAR TO INNOVATE WOOL CRAFTMANSHIP, a special project carried out by The Woolmark Company, with the patronage of Campaign for Wool – Patron HRH The Prince of Wales, and developed by the students of Accademia Costume & Moda, in collaboration with Maison Valentino and Dyloan Bond Factory.
Students from Accademia Costume & Moda in Rome were to research and develop craftmanship garments using Merino wool, highlighting excellence and innovation. The project is supported by the patronage of Campaign for Wool: Patron HRH The Prince of Wales that has always sustained the use of wool among young and talented designers, inspiring them on its infinite properties and incredible qualities to be applied in the fashion industry.
No longer simply referring to formal clothing, craftmanship is continually redefined by multicultural and transgenerational lifestyles and influences. The young designers have created outerwear outfits which look for new applications and treatments that innovative with Merino wool, for example by combining wool with other materials.
The objective of the project was to research and develop craftmanship garments analysing first the person in order to design a personal wardrobe in Merino wool that was composed of various interchangeable elements.
After a careful research, the young designers have studied technological innovations such as laser cutting, heat-sealed inlay or taping to create luxury garments that enhance the countless qualities of Merino wool, including the innate elasticity, natural breathability, thermoregulation and resistance to odours.
Students have the opportunity to exhibit their garment in Merino wool from 7 to 10 January 2020 at the Fortezza da Basso with a special installation at Central Pavilion during Pitti Immagine Uomo.
