UNIC – Concerie Italiane (National Italian Tannery Association) presents at LINEAPELLEmost important leather goods trade fair in the world, the conclusion of “EXPLORING ITALIAN LEATHER SUSTAINABILITY“, project developed in partnership with Accademia Costume & Moda and Gucci.

The Italian manufacturing companies empower education with the support of Gucci, to support young talents to developing sensitivity towards the future.

Sustainabilityculture for the product and experimentation are the pillars on which the 3rd year students of our Costume and Fashion BA, have elaborated innovative leather working and production techniques, using exclusively raw materials coming from the Tanneries who adhere to UNIC’s sustainability manifest. The prototypes have then been developed and created by the students at Gucci ArtLab in Scandicci (Florence).

After Gucci’s brief launch, ther was a first selection of the most interesting projects by Gucci’s ArtLab Top Management.

On the total class of participants, 11 were the projects selected and 4 the prototpypes created at Gucci ArtLab and exhibited at LineaPelle designed by Benedetta Giunti “DETOX LEATHER – Bonaudo e L&G Holding tanneries; Alessia Scasseddu “PELLE TRA LEGNO E TECNOLOGIA – Sciarada Tannery”; Sofia Scarponi “OPHELIA –Caravel and  Essenzialmente Laura di Laura Bosetti  Tonatto tanneries”; Eleonora di Girolamo, “RESKIN –Russo di Casandrino tannery”.

The Project which lasted 1 year has been characterized by a full calendar of testimonies, meetings with professionals, workshops and visits. i.e to UNIC’s associated tanneries, along with Gucci ArtLab, the new Florentine’s brand vanguard center of industrial craftsmanship and experimental laboratory for leather goods and shoes. In detail the Project included: training on the sustainability conceptLineaPelleFuture Concept Lab and Gucciseminarslectures and case histories, among which “Sustainability of Italian Leather (LineaPelle); “Case Study Russo di Casandrino” (Alfredo Guerra); “Terminology, tags, certifications” (Sabrina Frontini); “Gucci Case Study”, (Gucci CSR Department).

A true and concrete demonstration of how Italian Tannery lives sustainability as a natural expression of innovative vision to excellence and continuous improvement.
